CTS Online Proctoring FAQs

Log into your Pearson VUE account at https://www.pearsonvue.com/AVIXA and select the exam you’d like to change from your ‘Upcoming Appointments.’ You will need to cancel your appointment with the testing center before you will be able to schedule an appointment for online proctoring. Once cancelled, follow the on-screen prompts to schedule an appointment and online proctoring will be available as a delivery option.

You will receive an email confirming any changes to your appointment. Don’t forget to click ‘Confirm’ on the final screen to ensure your changes have been saved. If you do not receive a confirmation email, your changes were not saved and you should repeat the process, ensuring you click “Confirm” on the final screen.

While the CTS exam is available in English, Spanish, and German, the greeter support, proctor support, and proctoring software are currently only available in English and Japanese.

Online proctoring is available in most countries with the exception of China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Slovenia. Please note that while the CTS exam is available in English, Spanish, and German, the greeter support, proctor support, and proctoring software are currently only available in English and Japanese.

No, only the CTS exam is available via online proctoring at this time. CTS-D and CTS-I exams are only delivered at Pearson VUE test centers.

Start by ensuring that your computer meets our requirements by completing the required system test and exam simulation. Read about what to expect regarding testing session protocol. If you have any doubts or reservations, we recommend that you schedule your exam at a test center.

No. You should not schedule an appointment for online proctoring delivery if your system does not pass the system test.

To schedule, go to https://www.pearsonvue.com/AVIXA and sign in if you already have a Pearson account, if not, follow the prompts to create an account with Pearson VUE.

Once signed in, select your exam and follow the prompts to schedule your appointment. If online proctoring is available in your country, you will be able to select that delivery option during the scheduling process. You will also choose your exam language (English, Spanish, or German) as part of the appointment process.

You will have the same amount of time to complete the exam as you would when taking the exam at a Pearson VUE test center.

No. The exams are identical.

Yes. Test centers provide you with a white board on which you can make notes. This is not allowed in an online proctored delivery environment. You will instead have access to a note pad app within the exam delivery software. If you wish to make notes during your exam by hand, please take the exam at a Pearson VUE test center.

Bathroom breaks are also not allowed in an online proctored delivery environment as you are not permitted to leave the room once testing begins. If you wish to have the option to take a restroom or other break during your exam, please take the exam at a Pearson VUE test center.

Please note that while the CTS exam is available in English, Spanish, and German, the proctoring software, greeter support, and proctor support are only available in English.

For registration questions, please use the Pearson VUE customer service links provided during scheduling. If you encounter a technical issue during exam delivery, the exam proctor is available to help you try to resolve the issue. If necessary, the proctor will provide you with an Incident Report number to reference when following up with Pearson VUE Customer Support.

You can begin your exam process promptly at your scheduled appointment time. You have up to 15 minutes after your scheduled appointment time to begin the exam process. You are not permitted to begin the exam process after the allotted 15 minutes.

Click the “Check-in to start exam” link found in your confirmation, reschedule or reminder email. You can also log in directly at https://home.pearsonvue.com/avixa/onvue. Then select view your upcoming appointment and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the check-in process.

CTS Program FAQs

Yes, you must have a valid CTS credential before sitting for a CTS-D or CTS-I exam.

Before registering with Pearson VUE, register for the CTS exam; choose between the online application and the PDF application. Both can be found on the AVIXA website. After your application is processed, check your inbox for an email with the subject line, “CTS Candidate Eligibility Notice”. Directions on how to finish your registration and your member ID can be found in the email.

Nonmembers and Basic members pay:

$490 (USD), 440€ (EUR), £380 (GBP), or AU$655 (AUD)

Premium and Elite members pay:

$390 (USD), 350€ (EUR), £300 (GBP), or AU$520 (AUD)

ou will need 30 RUs to renew. You can earn them from any combination of AVIXA training and approved-manufacturer training. You may renew up to 180 days early.

No, you are not required to complete any courses to complete the exam. The preparation for the exam can be done based on what each individual needs. However, we recommend you start with our course Quick Start to the AV Industry if you are new to all things AV. Following that, we recommend our AV Essentials track, including the four modules Audio 1, Video 1, Networking 1, and AV Infrastructure. Finally, complete the CTS-Prep track, including the modules Audio 2, Video 2, Networking 2, Creating AV Solutions, Implementing AV Solutions, and Servicing AV Solutions. All modules can be completed in any order. As additional practice, you may also refer to the AVIXA-Recognized AV Technologist Test, AV Math, and our CTS Sample Questions, all of which can be found on the Training Catalog.
